HBC Trapline

HBC Trapline. During the fur trade beaver pelts were traded for one Hudson Bay Co. four point blanket. These HBC blankets started to replace traditional blankets that were sewn together from rabbit furs. Indigenous women were vital to the fur trade and the preparation of furs. More recently my chapan and kokum also had a trapline of rabbit snares to provide food for their families and they would sell the rabbit furs for extra money. The HBC Trapline rabbit fur drums honour their work in caring and providing for their families and community. The four HBC colours of Blue,Yellow, Red and Green acknowledge our ancestors who were fur traders and the importance of the blanket and women's labour to the fur trade.
